NetBEUI is fine and fast. I ran it for a few years on my home server with out a problem. You'll have a much easier time troubleshooting IMO if you just use the standard, and it probably won't make a ton of difference in performance. Nothing but problems with that set up. Now I changed my set up and it hasn't ever been more reliable, faster and more secure.
Agreed, fewer protocols ARE better. Less garbage to clog up the plumbing. Just for clarification, Client for Microsoft Networks is existent in the protocol's installed listing. Therefore, unless there is another configuration, in my experience, NETBEUI needs to be installed for computers to communicate on a simple network. Note, the application I am referring to is a peer-to-peer with internet connection sharing. That being said, this should not become a "what is the 'best' protocol" discussion.
Since that cannot be answered. And in some cases, multiple network protocols are required. Ok, we've established that fact already.
I have a simple peer-to-peer with high speed internet sharing running W2K. Most techs in this area agree that NetBEUI must be installed to enable both computers to communicate. I have unbound it from Client for MS Networks.. What's next depends on what's not working for you. Of course. Can you share 'resources'? If not, how are you trying to connect i.
Frankly, I didn't "do" anything special to get it running that way, either. Trending Search forums. What's new. New posts Latest activity. Thread starter Jakki0 Start date Jul 13, Sidebar Sidebar.

For example, if you use netbeui for file and printer sharing on your little network, then you can be sure that stuff is not accessible from a machine outside your network i.
NetBEUI is suitable for small peer-to-peer networks involving a few computers directly connected to each other. It consists of a comprehensive set of protocols that span the seven layers of the OSI reference model. FTP allows multiple simultaneous connections to remote file systems. This makes it a preferred protocol for networking.
